Canada's Big Quilt Bee

You heard it here, Canada is launching a BIG QUILT BEE in celebration of Canada's 150th!

We think Canadian quilters are up for the challenge in reaching a goal of  quilting 1,000 quilts for kids in care at Ronald McDonald Houses across our nation!

What can you do?  Make a block, make a top, come out to our conference and help quilt during the BIG BEE June 14-17th. Cheryl Arkison has kindly let us use her 'slab block pattern'. Thanks Cheryl!

Jill Buckley designed our awesome logo for us, thanks Jill!

Here you will find out all the pertinent information that includes how to make the block and top, and what to do when you have made them.

Some of the fabric lines aren't coming out until November, but others are out now. Below are the links and some images of some of the fabrics to be used in the slab blocks.

If we have missed a Canada 150 fabric line, pls let us know at socialmedia@canadianquilter.com.

    1. I'm assuming the Sesquicentennial line from Northcott is also eligible to be used?

  3. Are these the only fabrics allowed, or can we use other fabric that has a Canadian flag? Thanks.

  5. Is the "wonky" block like the ones showing in your page header/footer ok too, or do the blocks have to be the Cheryl Arkinson, straight cut slab block pattern?

  6. Could we do "wonky" slab blocks like those that appear on your page header/footer? or must it be the Cheryl Arkison straight cut slab block?

  8. Village Square Quilt Shop in Burlington, ON has the northcott line as well as the Harper Line. When the Glowing Hearts is released we will have the entire line in stock.

  9. I would like to join in, and will see if I can obtain some of the fabric from up North. Can a block be all batik? or all cotton? I have wonderful friends throughout Canada, and feel this is so worthwhile. Greetings to you all, Jean in New Zealand.

  12. yesterday I asked whether the fabrics had to be pre-washed but have received no response? Maybe a silly question to some, but I don't routinely pre-wash fabric anymore and have had no difficulties. Thanks
